The English Department of Huizhou No.1 Middle School consists of 46 English teachers, including 18 senior teachers, 2 national, 3 provincial and 5 municipal outstanding teachers as well. Our staff in this department has received the honor of the best team of the city, and has got many awards. With the active and hard—working attitude and solid knowledge, all the teachers have made great achievements in English teaching practice and have made extraordinary contributions to the aspect of discipline competitions and the teaching cause of our city.
In the process of teaching and learning, we focus on the principle of Humanism. Teachers not only teach students rich knowledge but also cultivate the ability of using language by self—study, self—exploration and cooperation. In order to stimulate students’ interest in English and provide them with opportunities to show off their talents, we have founded Sun—Flower English Club and published the School Paper “To—Days”. With the help of foreign teachers in School International Department, we have opened the courses for listening, speaking and special skills training (small class teaching). Apart from these, our department has successfully carried out some excellent activities to enrich the cultural atmosphere as well as to cooperate with the English classroom teaching, such as English debate, English play Tournament, Christmas Party, English singing contest, English Newspaper and Hand-writing Display. We even set up the English afforesting signs for school campus.
With the reform of English teaching syllabus being carried out, our teachers are constantly learning new teaching theories, renew teaching ideals and improve teaching methods. Among them, some have had scores of teaching articles and books published, several national and municipal teaching tasks applied for research, and a number of demonstration classes and software prized.
Out of our effort, no matter in the discipline competitions or in NEMT (National Entrance Examination), we are always on the lead. For example, in the 1998 NEMT, 6 students entered the Top 100 and one student took the second place in Guangdong province.
In 2000, one student got the full mark 900 and in 2004, 13 students reached the standard of over 800 points and 104 students got more than 700 points. Last year, we also had one student who got the full mark 900 in English (2).
The motto for our department is to pursuit constantly, advance steadily and work hard for renewal. Based on this principle, all of our English teachers will do our utmost and keep on advancing on the way to success.
